What is WIC?

WIC is a federal nutrition program. WIC provides food, nutrition counseling, and referrals to health care for eligible pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers of infants 1 year or younger & non-breastfeeding mothers of infants 6 months or younger, and children less than 5 years old.

What can WIC do for you?

WIC can save you money on your food budget. WIC gives you or your child food checks. Women and Children can purchase food worth an average of $75 a month. WIC checks are redeemed at local stores that are WIC approved.
WIC can show you how to be healthier and eat healthier foods.
WIC can help with breastfeeding. WIC provides breastfeeding information, counseling and a link to other WIC moms who have successfully breastfed their babies. WIC can also supply breast pumps for moms who need to return to work or school.
WIC can help you find medical help for you and your family. You can also learn about other services in the community that might help you.

Who may apply for WIC?

Pregnant women. To supplement the nutrition your growing baby needs.
Mothers of Infants. Breastfeeding mothers until infant is 1 year of age. Non-breastfeeding mothers until infant is 6 months of age. To supplement mother's nutritional needs.
Babies and Children less than 5 years old. To provide babies up to 1 year old with:
~ Infant Cereal and baby foods at age 6 months
~ Iron Fortified Formula, if not breastfed
~Milk and other nutritious WIC approved foods to children ages 1-4 years.

When and how do you apply for WIC?

Call WIC as soon as you are pregnant or at any time during your pregnancy.
Call WIC if you have children under the age of 5 years.

When you call the WIC office for an appointment, staff will ask you to bring the following:
~ Children to be enrolled
~ Proof of household income
~ Proof of address
~ Immunization records
